  • "At the end of August I announced I would be retiring in the spring after more than 42 years in health care and 27 at RRMC. These kinds of life transitions, of course, make you take stock in how things have gone. It has reminded me once again how fortunate I have been in my work. I cannot recall a day when I did not believe that I was participating in something which made a difference to people, to our community. How many people get to say that? Not enough I fear. And on top of that I have had the honor of working with the most wonderful, dedicated staff imaginable at RRMC. That this is coming to an end is in many ways bitter sweet. But then I remember that most people never get the gift that we have received. The gift of touching lives. How lucky are we." – Tom Huebner, President and CEO

  • "I have been working closely with the Project Search program for several years now. I have a special needs grandson so I know firsthand how challenging everyday tasks can be for some of these kids. Reading, writing, social interactions, etc., so many things we take for granted that others struggle to achieve. I have watched as they have overcome their anxieties and fears and are succeeding in their assignments. I think this is a fantastic program and I am thankful for all the help I receive from these kids. I admire and respect them for all they do. I’ve even learned a few things from these students as well. Congratulations to all of you! Keep up the good work!" – Todd Yakunovich, Environmental Services

  • "I am grateful for the sense of belonging that I have always had at Rutland Regional Medical Center. From the time I first walked through these doors I knew this was my home. Why? Because of the people, our work family. The care and compassion that is demonstrated here daily truly astounds me. My heart holds a tremendous amount of gratitude." – Carol Egan, Chief Nursing Officer

  • "In the spring of 2016 I was accepted into the RN to BSN program through Castleton University. The hospital partnered with Castleton for this program and is paying 100% of my tuition. I think about the classes every day. I think about finishing school and what that means to me. I think about how much work the classes are and sometimes how stressful it is. What I don’t always think about is the fact that I have been given the opportunity to go to school free of charge because of RRMC. This special program has afforded me a chance to do something that I might not have financially been able to do. Education is so important. As a nurse, a Bachelor’s degree awards me the skills, knowledge, and theory to be a better nurse for myself, my team here at the hospital, but most importantly for my community and the patients I care for. The opportunity to further my education with no financial responsibility is certainly something I take for granted, but it is something I am so grateful for." – Katelynn Brown, Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit

  • "The greatest insight I've gained over the past year is the value of being engaged and involved. I've learned it can be far too convenient to remain passive and ingrained in the day to day trenches of everyday life. I've discovered a newfound appreciation both for my workplace and community over the previous year and during this time have built some of the most meaningful relationships of my entire life. Rutland is a place where your involvement can make a profound difference, and the first step to accomplishing that is to show up. We are a community of caring, creative, and inspiring people committed to creating a brighter future, and for that, I could not be more grateful. I look forward to continuing to live and work alongside some of the best people I've ever come to know. Thank you to everyone who has embraced me as part of this community, and I look forward to continuing to grow together."

  • "I am thankful for the Sense of Pride that exists throughout RRMC. I see it in the faces of techs and nurses caring for patients, the walk of the volunteers in the hallways, and the actions of housekeepers tidying up their area. I hear it in the voices of the therapists, the receptionists, the maintenance staff, and the providers. I am immersed in this sense of pride everywhere I go, all day long, and I am grateful." – Steve Hazelton, Training & Education

  • "I am thankful for the strong and supportive community I live and grew up in. Some people might hate living in a 'small town' where you know everyone and run into people you know all the time, but I’m grateful to know so many people, most of whom would help you with a simple request. There have been many events, Hurricane Irene for example, where we have proven we are Vermont Strong, but Rutland has its own strength that I feel only gets stronger with every challenge we face and I’m grateful to be a part of that." – Stephanie Roach, LICSW, Behavioral Health

I am thankful every day for the opportunity to go to a job I love and potentially make a difference in someone's life." – Melissa McLeod, RN, Women's & Children's Unit

  • "This is the time of year that people often take a step back and try to reflect on the things in life that they are most thankful for. First and foremost, I am thankful for my two beautiful healthy children, Emma & Max. They have given me the opportunity to be their mom and I could not ask for a better experience in life than being a parent. I am also thankful for the opportunity I was given when I met my husband and he took the reins, so I was able to fulfill my dream of becoming a nurse and went back to school. Through my career as a nurse I have met so many amazing people. It is through both positive and negative relationships that we discover who we are as a person and I am grateful for each experience I have had! Have a wonderful holiday season and enjoy the time with those close to you!" – Heather Hollister, RN, Foley Cancer Center

  • "I’m grateful for the Engineering & Maintenance staff – for how much they care about the building, the clinical equipment, and the utility systems because they’re all important to the care and safety of the patients. I’m grateful that every day I get to work with a group of skilled technicians who insist on “doing it right”. And I’m grateful that even on the toughest, busiest days we find the time to have a good laugh and find the humor in the hard work that we do." – Jim Smith, Engineering & Maintenance

  • "What comes to my mind when I think about being thankful is love, family, and teamwork. I enjoy my life and everyone that has entered it. My mom has motivated me the most and has always been there for me. She has pushed me forward to reach my dreams and spread the joy of life. Each day I learn something new and with it I learn how to become a better person. I could never express the level of gratitude I have for every person that has touched my life. Even the simple things such as a smile, a laugh, and sometimes a hug. These simplest things are what keep me going. By expressing happy thoughts and appreciation for others, it shows we care. My team on the Medical Oncology Unit is like family. We look out for each other and are always there when someone needs a hand or an ear to listen. This is what makes the world a better place. I am truly thankful to have so much love in my life." – Julianna Kimball, RN, Medical Oncology Unit

  • "There are so many things that I have to be grateful for that makes this difficult to put it into words. I have to start with my family. They support me in many ways including my seemingly endless pursuit of educational enrichment. They give me quiet, they help me laugh during times of stress, they keep the house running and they love me unconditionally. The next cause for gratitude is my work. I am so happy that I work for a company that is in alignment with my values and goals. I love helping people and being surrounded by like-minded people is inspiring. I have wonderful co-workers and mentors who are always willing to lend a helping hand or listening ear. This is just a small glimpse into some of the reasons why I am grateful. Thank you so much for the opportunity to share a piece of my story." – Christine Perry, Patient Relations

  • "I am grateful to have two loving and caring dogs. Not only are they always happy to see me when I come home, but they have expanded my opportunities to meet new friends with the DockDogs community. It is such a great atmosphere because everyone is friendly and happy whenever they are with their dogs. Dog people are the best!" – Suzy Thompson, Laboratory

  • "I am grateful for where I live because I can walk to wherever I need to go and it’s a short drive to many of my favorite places. I live near the Hospital so I can: •Walk to work and soon I will be able to walk to a new dog park; •Walk to the movie theater or the Paramount •Walk to the places that I like to eat like Roots, Hop N’Moose, The Tap House, The Bakery and Tokyo House •Drive ten minutes to Bald Mountain and run or snowshoe (sometimes before work) •Drive fifteen minutes to Pico and Killington and ski before it gets crowded •Take the train to New York and enjoy the city because sometimes I need an urban experience I am grateful that I live in a place where it’s easy to do so many different things. – John Wallace, Chief Compliance Officer

  • "I think that gratitude that is cultivated can prove to be an invaluable lesson in life. I was blessed to have had parents who modeled daily appreciation for the simple pleasures in life. In addition to typical reasons to be grateful; food on the table, roof over our heads, warm clothing, they taught my siblings and myself to be aware and grateful for the glimpses of sunlight even during darker times or when encountering obstacles. So I am grateful for learning those early lessons from wonderful people which went hand and hand with keeping a hopeful heart." – Diane Mayo, Occupational Therapy

  • "I am very grateful for the most wonderful job here at RRMC. I feel very blessed and very happy for what I do here. I am very grateful for all my co-workers - they all rock; they are all like family to me. I stop and think a lot about all the wonderful caring doctors we have here. I can’t think about a better place or better doctors than we have here at RRMC. I am very happy and grateful I am on the trauma team, and one big thing I am so very grateful for is the wonderful president, Tom Huebner. Most of all I am so thankful for a very caring loving husband." – Donna Manfredi, Mailroom

My children have helped me along the way making sure I have a positive attitude. When I am feeling down, my family is always there for me bringing me back up." – Bob Wetherby, Volunteer Services

  • "My husband and I will always be grateful for unconditional love, yes, by family and friends, but also, from our 1st Newfoundland dog, MacPherson and now our 2nd Newfoundland dog, Nimbus. British Poet Lord Byron best sums it up: 'One who possesses Beauty without Vanity, Strength without Insolence, Courage without Ferocity, and all the virtues of Man without his Vices'." – Pat Baird, Human Resources

  • "I wake up every morning conscious and thankful for my wife and children. I then get to go to work spending my day around dedicated compassionate people serving others. Along with my partners Bart Bonazinga, Mike Robertello, and Adam Coleman, I get to make very difficult decisions and use my heart and intellect to do the right thing. Quite tired at the end of the day I get to come home once again, greeted with unconditional love and enthusiasm by my dogs, and have a hug and kiss awaiting me from my wife. For this I have great gratitude." –Dr. Stan Shapiro, President of Medical Staff, Rutland Heart Center

  • "Over the 11 years I have been employed at RRMC, I have worked with many very special coworkers. I am thankful for these relationships that have carried on, even after one or the other of us has moved on to another position within the organization. These long term relationships are instrumental in facilitating good patient care. When you collaborate with someone, it’s typically someone you know by name, you know their story. It’s a deeper level of commitment and understanding. You are working with an old friend" – Alexandra Foley-Bowen, RN, Rutland General Surgery

  • "As corny as it may sound, I am grateful for being supported by RRMC to do the work of helping people live healthier lives. I feel fortunate to play a part in the trend towards Lifestyle Medicine, a movement which will hopefully lead to improved quality of life for RRMC employees and their families. It is work I truly believe in. I’m also hugely thankful for my ever-growing rowdy Irish family; we’re adding our first grandchild to the fray this year!" – Jacki Becker, NP, Employee Wellness

  • "I am grateful to be a member of the RRMC Orthopaedic team. Over the past 20 years I have been privileged to be able see the patients in our community benefit from orthopedic interventions. I certainly could not deliver this complex, efficacious care alone. Our RN and surgical teams are amazingly skilled, caring and dedicated. They however do not often get to see the wonderful results of their hard work. I do get to see these great results. I am thankful to have the RRMC clinical teams working with me for our patients." – Dr. Mel Boynton, Chief Medical Officer, Vermont Orthopaedic Clinic
